A review from a new member & newbie marketer

“……So as with the other teleseminars, they have given me lots of information. I am mainly interested in the blogging and podcasting, since I enjoy writing a lot. But once I finish hearing all of the seminars I am going to take stock of what I have heard and decide which way I want to go. So thanks for this great information. I am a beginner, but I am ready to learn and to work.”

Want to know how to listen to loads of different podcasts? You need a podcather

November 14, 2007 by DianeCorriette

Podcasts are audio or video material that has been created as a downloadable file using a special podcast URL also known as an RSS or XML feed.

On this link (or feed) will be every audio recorded and uploaded by the person creating the podcast show. They upload their shows and you get to download and listen to them. The beauty of working in this way is that you, as the listener, can not only listen to them online but download them to your computer and/or ipod to listen at your leisure.

As there are now so many podcasts available online people like to organize them in a way they can quickly see and understand. Just like using outlook for emails you can download software for podcasts called a podcatcher (or podcast receiver). You don’t need a podcatcher to actually listen, just to collect and organize them all.

A podcatcher is an ‘aggregator’ which means it retrieves information from different channels. You may be familiar with the expression ’syndication’ which is the distribution of the audios and videos to different channels. So first the content is syndicated and in order for you to get hold of my syndicated content you use an aggregator…. Simple!

iTunes is the king of podcast receivers. People use iTunes to organize their music and to download new mp3 music but iTunes is by no means the only one available. Google, Yahoo and all the major search engines now have their own podcatcher that you can use.

You then have what’s called a ’subscription’ to a particular podcast author and just like a magazine subscription that comes through the mail, every time a new issue is available from the podcast you subscribed too it is automatically delivered into your podcatcher inbox. You can then choose to listen to it or not.

The main difference is unlike those annoying magazine subscriptions you can never get rid of, or the annoying emails that keep coming in after you unsubscribe, once you decide you no longer want to receive a podcast you simple remove it from your podcatcher and it’s gone!

Most retriever/receiver software is exceedingly easy to use, and as of 2008 most of it is also free, even if the content you want to retrieve may not be.

Once you download your podcatcher you will want to fill it full of your favorite podcasts. There are as many places to go to find podcasts as there are podcatchers and the easiest way to discover ones you love is through the search engines. Just start with the topic you are looking for and then add the word podcasts at the end of it. Weight loss, personal growth, internet marketing all of these topics and move are available as podcasts.

You will also find large podcasts directories that will host podcasts on different topics which makes it easier for you to search but don’t miss out on some of the great podcasts you will find on blogs and websites too.

There is no real structure to how podcasts are created, some run for 15 minutes while others might run for a whole 90 minutes. Some podcasts involve one speaker whilst others may have guest speakers. Some are run by professional business people and include adverts while others are created by local people who want to get their voice heard.

Whether you want to listen to an author read their book to you, a personal development guru fill you with motivation or an internet marketing expert show you the easiest way to make money online podcasts are a great way to gain valuable information from a range of different people that you can listen to when you are ready.

Using podcasts to create direct and indirect revenue stream

November 8, 2007 by DianeCorriette

Thousands of podcasts are downloaded every single day. These podcasts provide an opportunity for the listener to listen at their leisure and many of them are free marketing tools for entrepreneurs in business.

If you are an entrepreneur in business looking to create an additional revenue steam from your podcasts one of the best ways is to sell them as a product itself.

There are a few different ways you can create an additional revenue stream with podcasts including:

Creating lecture style podcasts that “students” pay for
As an entrepreneur you will have an area of expertise that people will pay to listen to, perhaps it can be sold as an alternative to your higher priced ticket offline seminar.  You can make a one off charge for a number of podcasts or charge a fee for each individual one. You may even decide to create ongoing residual income by offering a weekly subscription.

These may all be easier alternatives for people who cannot afford your other material and can also be used for people in another country unable to make your event.  What’s really great about using this method is the fact that people get an opportunity to get to know your style before investing in one of your higher end products.

This is a great method for Coaches, motivational speakers, psychologists, internet marketers and other people who are able to provide hints, advice, techniques, and how to type valuable information.

Use old radio formats and re-create them for todays market
Radio shows that told stories, involved comedy shows, had husband and wife type banter, provided serious political debates. All these type of old radio formats can be used now as podcasts. A podcast that contains more than one host provides entertainment for the listener so consider creating “conversational podcasts” on a relevant topic for that week or month that your subscribers will pay to download.

Access to business people or well known public figures
If you are able to gain access to well known business professionals and provide a weekly podcast that interviews them, or an informal chat session this can create a great monthly subscription for you that you can turn into a membership site. All you do is provide your members with access to the professional or celebrity talk show style podcast that you have created.

Create tele-seminars and sell them as a download
Business people love to talk about what they do and their business. Find experts in a field and arrange a teleseminar with them. You can invite people to attend and use that as a way to build your list and/or you can just record the call and then offer it for sale.

Set up a website and offer the download of each call. You may want to offer one price across the board or to vary the price according to the speaker.

These are great ways for entrepreneurs in business to develop a fairly inexpensive way to market their products/services and benefit from an ongoing residual income stream.

While those are direct revenue streams there are also indirect revenue streams that involve you providing free information through your podcasts that may eventually lead to a sale.

For example you run an internet based business selling software. Your ultimate goal is to get people buying your software. You may decide to use podcasts as a way to provide information about what one particular piece of software can do. You can talk about how it can save people time, money or frustration (or all 3!), talk about why it is worth investing in, how it works, the many different uses it has etc.
If you are not the creator of the software look into interviewing the person who did create it and provide that as a free podcast. This all helps to sell your product for you and is not just a plain boring “infomercial” but provides a lot more value than that.

You run a law firm. A legal issues podcast with interviews, anecdotes and advice could boost the profile of the firm, and well beyond your traditional market.

Those are just some of the ways that an entrepreneur in business can use to support your marketing activities and generate an ongoing income from podcasts.

Podcasts have become a big hit with some of the major players like the BBC and CNN because they realize the potential in allowing their listeners to be able to gain access to news items long after the item was featured on the television.

People now dictate when they will watch the news and other television shows as it all becomes easier to download them from the internet and watch at our leisure.

If it wasn’t a worthwhile investment then these large corporations wouldn’t waste their time with it so take that as hint of things to come. The market is growing and becoming larger. The possibilities with podcasts, and rss feeds have changed the way our information is delivered to us.

If you are not creating podcasts right now you seriously need to consider changing that because you are missing out on a fabulous marketing tool whether you choose to monetize them or not. At the very least they result in subscribers to your newsletter who get to know you through your voice and the more people know, like and trust you the more chance of them becoming a life long customer.

The importance of podcasting for internet marketers

November 5, 2007 by DianeCorriette

According to research company The Diffusion Group 840,000 Americans listened to podcasts in 2004 and this number is forecast to increase to 56 million by 2010. Now is the time to take advantage of this opportunity to create, distribute and monetize your expertise.

The word podcast came about by combining Apple’s “iPod” and the word “broadcasting” to create the birth of a new type of downloadable media that is fast becoming the latest craze!

Podcasting is a method of producing a media file (either audio or video) and uploading it to the internet, providing an opportunity for people to subscribe to and receive them automatically as they are uploaded and listen/watch at their convenience.

No more having to tune into a radio/TV show, or listen to streaming media from a website, now you can download the show to your iPod, pda, mobile, Zune or other handheld device and listen to it on the train or in your car.

If you run your own business podcasting offers you a number of opportunities not only to stay in the hearts and minds of your current clients, but also to attract new clients and earn revenue from your products and/or service.

The opportunities for practitioners creating podcasts, the opportunity for potential revenue from creating podcasts, and the opportunity to appeal to a wider audience world wide will be ignored at your peril!

Here are 10 reasons why you should seriously consider riding the podcasting wave!

1. Establishing yourself as an expert in your industry - A podcast provides the opportunity for people to get to know you and your work allowing you to quickly establishing yourself as an expert as your listeners increase.

2. Podcasts provide you with an opportunity to communicate with your audience on a world wide scale. Once your podcast has been created and submitted to podcast directories, the opportunity for people to download and listen to your information opens up fantastic possibilities.

3. Podcasts have an advantage over articles. You may have written hundreds of articles but your reader cannot feel the emotion behind your words. Also, the written word is subjective and open to interpretation from the reader. With podcasts you get to express emotions that can influence, entertain and inspire your listener.

4. There is an opportunity to create additional revenue from your podcast. Two reasons why podcasts may be popular (in my opinion) is the fact that they are free, and many of them contain little or no advertising. Just pure, hopefully informative, unique, entertaining content! You can use your podcast introductions and endings to let listeners know who you are, what you do, your website address/other content, and promote your products and services. Or create podcasts that focus on a particular product, or training method and promote that.

5. You have an opportunity to re-use your written work and create it into a media format. Whether you take that written word and create a video or audio the opportunity is there for you to dust off those old articles, thesis, half written book and use them.

6. If you enjoy using metaphors, stories, prose or poems as a way of inspiring people then here is an opportunity for you to really have them come to life through your voice.

7. Podcasts provide an opportunity for you to take your unpublished work and distribute it to subscribers in the hope of it becoming so popular that it leads to a book or show (there are several stories of artists who were signed up after releasing songs from their albums). Imagine ending up with your own TV show because your weekly video podcast became so popular that the networks picked up on it!

8. Podcasting is a creative and fun process! Your podcast does not have to contain serious lecture style information. You can provide “fire side chats” where you inform and inspire. If you provide meditation services, this is an excellent way to allow subscribers to download your work and listen to it morning and night. You can interview an expert, or have someone interview you as the expert.

9. You can create “how to” videos for your subscribers, providing them with the ability to watch how to use your product, or how to get the most out of your service.

10. It provides an alternative method of communication for the visually impaired and in the future if “signing” is introduced to videos could also become a valuable source for the deaf and heard of hearing community.

The great thing about podcasting is the public will become your critic! If you know you are as talented and as great as a leading expert in your field but you just need the opportunity to get yourself known, then creating a podcast provides that opportunity.

The number of downloads to your show will be the measuring tool that will tell you if you are a hit or miss! And several podcast directories provide the opportunity for people to comment on and/or vote for their favorite podcasts.

Podcasting is a serious business and keeping up with new technology is important in any field if you are not going to be left behind. It will take a regular investment in time and creativity, and perhaps an initial investment in equipment (although you may already have more than you know!) but it is a fairly inexpensive form of marketing.

As with anything new a period of learning is recommended, but as with anything new learnt well, it won’t be long before you are motivating, inspiring and entertaining the world wide web with your media delights!
