Debbie Ducic Gutzy Women

Debbie Ducic, Gutzy WomenI have great respect for Diane Corriette of Women internet marketers. Coming from 30 years of advocating for the economic development for women and their families, I’ve networked with thousands of women in my time and I have to say that diane is as real and caring as anyone i’ve had the pleasure of meeting either online OR off.

I contacted her with a mission i was on. not only did she pick up on the importance of the mission, she immediately encouraged me to go for it and volunteered to jump on the bandwagon to help me make it happen. believe me, there were many others that wanted to play it safe and not rock the boat. not diane…she sensed my sincerity, felt my passion and encouraged me by her words as well as her actions.

Well, I respect that alot and since then have watched closely how she operates her business and her life. She is the “poster child” for portraying a “gutZy Woman”!

not only is she genuine and caring, diane knows what she’s talking about when it comes to internet marketing, coaching and networking. She lives it, which can be discovered  by you googling her. don’t take my word for it…look her up on google and get ready to be amazed at how committed she is to not only her own success, but to everyone that looks to her for education, training and leadership.

Do You See? I See!

Rachel Elnaugh and Gendergate

June 27, 2008 by DianeCorriette · 8 Comments

When it comes to blogging it’s a wonderful tool for expressing your opinion and sharing your expertise and nothing shows that more than what’s taking place on Rachel Elnaugh’s blog. The mistake was generalisation – making a sweeping statement about a whole population.  You know the kind of thing….

women always…..

men never…..

black people always….

white people never….

And the only question you have to ask is…. what ALL women always…. which of course instantly makes the statement sound absurd because you can never talk for all women! Its a simple but powerful error to make when you are putting anything into print – whether it’s in a newspaper or on your blog -  because there’s always someone out there with an opinion on it and people love to pounce.

(people love to pounce… a generalisation for you :-) – what ALL people love to pounce… of course not!)

So the gendergate surfaced when former Dragon’s Den star and business personality Rachel Elnaugh made a statement that female enterpreneurs are more “emotionally attached” to their business than men. Rachel based her comment on research she carried out through profile testing on her site but unless you interviewed ALL men and ALL women (which of course is impossible) that research will never truly be accurate.

Here is what Rachel said on her posted titled Sexist Comment …..

Well, you may know that I have an Entrepreneurial Profile Test on my website and having just run an analysis of c3,000 entrepreneurs profiled so far, here are the results:

54% of men profile as having strong money/material drivers vs 45% having predominantly emotional drivers, whereas only 34% of women have strong money drivers vs 65% having strong emotional drivers.

Source http://racheleelnaugh.blogspot.com

A better statement (in my opinion) would have been….

“I’ve profiled around 3,000 entrepreneurs to date and have found a definite difference in the strong monetary and emotional drivers that women have towards their business compared to men

…. [publish results]….

Based on that evidence one could generalise that women entrepreneurs are more emotionally attached to their business than men but we’d have to do alot more research to come to that conclusion”

[how safe and sitting on the fence is that???!!!..... :) ]

Or of course you can also say that “in my opinion” – because that really is all it can be – your own opinion and people may or may not agree with it. As soon as you make a statement that “ALL” of anybody does something you open yourself to those who agree, and those who most passionately don’t!

What started Rachel off on this path is a comment by my man (I love him) Theo Paphitis. He’s lively, fun and I love the way he likes to give struggling entrepreneurs a chance when they mess up on Dragon’s Den! He gets them to calm down and start again rather than just writing them off because they messed up their pitch. Anyway…. he made a comment about women’s brains turning to mush when they are pregnant…. what ALL women Theo…???

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/portal/main.jhtml?xml=/portal/2008/06/03/ftdragons103.xml&DCMP=ILC-traffdrv07053100

So blogging tip one is never generalise (what NEVER….?…… YES!)

And within this whole event lies blogging tip two…. contraversy works! So don’t listen to blogging tip number one :)

In conclusion then I think I have pretty much demonstrated that when it comes to blogging there really are no rules! You do what works for you and don’t let an “expert” like me tell you what you should or shouldn’t be doing with your business and your blog.

YOU are the expert in your business whether you want to believe that or not.

Invent your own rules (just avoid personal attacks because that truly isn’t nice – in my opinion!)

If you are a mushy brained emotionally attached women looking to make sense of how to get known online using blogs and podcasts make sure you join me on my blogging and podcasting teleseminar/webinar taking place July 10th. I have a whole new membership planned helping people establish their system and make money online

Diane

P.S. I remember catching a program on 7 year olds… don’t recall the name now but a group of girls and boys. They were asked to choose blocks with words like “love” “honesty” “rich” “popular” etc and discard them until they were left with their most important word. They each did this in a room alone (not with the other kids around them)

All boys (with the exception of one) discarded all the blocks until the only one left was ”rich”… ALL girls (that is every single one of them) had trouble choosing one block because they found being ”honest” and “loving” of equal importance! The boy who didn’t pick “rich” choose the same blocks as the girls. It was a very eye opening program about gender difference in kids as young as 7 and I flicked on to it so had no idea what it was called or what channel I was on.

It does (sort of) lean towards Rachel’s findings when it comes to the money and emotions debate in women and men.

P.P.S.

Rachel has a masterclass coming up to help you with your business. The best people to learn from (IMHO) are the people who mess up but keep going. That’s why I wrote about my internet marketing mistakes, because i learnt from them and by teaching them it means you can avoid them.

Darren Sylvester, Interalia Legal‘Diane, you have been a great mentor over the last couple of months.  Your handouts for the sessions were very professional and easy to follow.  It is thanks to you that I have succeeded in setting up my own online business, as your encouragement and genuine support throughout was invaluable.  Most of all your technical expertise, integrity, value for money sessions and first class service places you at a distinct advantage compared to others in this field.  I would have no hesitation in recommending you to others.

Teen Testimonial

June 7, 2008 by DianeCorriette · Leave a Comment

I did a talk at a school in Surrey and received a testimonial from one of the teens. The talk was back in June 2006 but it’s still one of the testimonials I am most proud of!

“Hello my name is Sophie and I am 15 years old. My mother who happens to be a SpeakerBureau/Incentives recommended Diane to speak at my school to an audience of roughly 150 very opiniated students from year 10.. We had already listened to three other speakers who were not at all inspiring or interesting. However, as soon as Diane stepped up the room lit up… believe me it takes a lot to get the undivided attention of my year group, but Diane did it. As soon as she stepped up the entire room, teachers included, listened to every inspiring word that she spoke. After her speech, every one of my friends came up to me to let me know what a “legend” they thought Diane was! And she definitely was just that… a legend, a very unique and inspiring legend!” Heathfield School UK

The story of the frogs

June 4, 2008 by DianeCorriette · Leave a Comment

My good friend Lemor added this story on a network I belong to and I thought I would include it here.

Once upon a time there was a bunch of tiny frogs…. who arranged a running competition.
The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower.

A big crowd had gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants….

The race began….

Honestly:

No one in the crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower.
You heard statements such as:

‘Oh, WAY too difficult!!’

‘They will NEVER make it to the top.’

or:

‘Not a chance that they will succeed. The tower is too high!’

The tiny frogs began collapsing. One by one….

Except for those, who in a fresh tempo, were climbing higher and higher..

The crowd continued to yell, ‘It is too difficult!!! No one will make it!’

More tiny frogs got tired and gave up….

But ONE continued higher and higher and higher….

This one wouldn’t give up!

At the end everyone else had given up climbing the tower. Except for the one tiny frog who, after a big effort, was the only one who reached the top!

THEN all of the other tiny frogs naturally wanted to know how this one frog managed to do it?

A contestant asked the tiny frog how he had found the strength to succeed and reach the goal?

It turned out….

That the winner was DEAF!!!!

The wisdom of this story is:

Never listen to other people’s tendencies to be
negative or pessimistic…. because they take your most wonderful dreams and wishes away from you — the ones you have in your heart!

Always think of the power words have. (There’s life and death in the power of the tongue – Proverbs 18:21.)

Because everything you hear and read will affect your actions!

Therefore:

ALWAYS be….

POSITIVE!

And above all:

Be DEAF when people tell YOU that you cannot fulfill your dreams!

The following are all quotes I love from Zig Ziglar

Define success on your terms

June 3, 2008 by DianeCorriette · Leave a Comment

What’s your definition of success based on where you are right now in your life?

We are all at different stages in life. Some of us just completing university and ready to start in the world of work, others having babies and coping with parent hood, many are raising teens and working through the challenges that this stage of life sometimes presents.

Based on where you are in your life right now what’s your definition of success and have you achieved it?

Our definitions change depending on our circumstances and there is never one solid way to define success.

Success is a word that can be defined only by the person make the definition. That’s you.

So when you relax on your day stop to consider where you are in life and what success means for you right now.

Below are some of my favourite quotes from Success University expert Les Brown

“Anytime you suffer a setback or disappointment, put your head down and plow ahead.”

“Don’t let someone else’s opinion of you become your reality.”

“I advise you to say your dream is possible and then overcome all inconveniences, ignore all the hassles and take a running leap through the hoop, even if it is in flames.”

“Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.”
