Are you part of the living dead?

Aug 25, 2009 by

I was part of the “living dead” for years, going through the motions of waking up, going to work, paying the bills, watching the television, going to bed and waking up the next morning and starting again.

Of course I had a few variations of that, I would go out, meet friends, have fun but always wake up to go into a job that I hated.  Shy and unable to engage in the easiest of conversations I never really said much either – waiting until people would speak to me before I spoke – but who wants to speak to someone with nothing to say!

It was the birth of my daughter (nearly 18 years ago now) that changed everything for me. I knew I didn’t want her to turn out like me, shy and afraid to live or take risks, and she hasn’t!

One of the things I always wanted to enjoy doing was writing. Since the age of 13 I had a passion for writing and when I left school I got really bad grades in everything EXCEPT English Language & Literature which I got the highest grade in.

I’ve made up for it now over the last 17 years – I studied with Open University to post graduate level, I love going out, being social, having fun. I completed Louise Hay courses, Landmark Education workshops, studied NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) to Master Practitioner level and read, listened and watch a very, very large range of empowering material.

The shy quiet girls is still very much apart of who I am – quiet confidence is what I call it now though, plus the world is full of talkers anyway so I enjoy being a listener!

Now 30 years later my first book is due out this year. I don’t have a publisher but will focus on self publication through lulu or one of the other UK based companies.

My book is called Getting IT Back – re-connecting to passion and purpose

The IT will be different for everyone but it is a dream we have always had but have yet to fulfill maybe because we needed to “get a proper job” or “leave it behind for the sake of the children”

The thing about having a passion is that it never leaves us, it is a gift from God and our soul will cry out until we stop ignoring it and start taking action on it.

One of my clients was stuck in a public sector job and really wanted to be an actress. Now close to 3-4 years later I am going to watch her perform in a monologue this September. She has appeared in shows throughout 2008/09 and is really living her dream. She sent me an email and one line reads

“and hey – thank you – look what’s happened over the past few years since meeting you – gone from strength to strength and now I have a one woman show in Soho Theatre – who would have believed it! Thing is….you did!”

What dream has your soul been calling you to fulfill?

What is your purpose that you want to reconnect to?

Life is too short and time far too precious to waste it living as part of the waking dead. Being alive but dead inside.  Wake up right now. To use a famous quote – Don’t die with the music still inside you.

About Diane Corriette

I write on this self development blog about building self confidence, and living a life of full self expression where you are free to be you. Being able to be confident is not so much about how you think but what you feel. To successfully build self confidence you must use your thoughts to create an image of who you want to be, and your emotions to help you feel this amazing new you and then visualise & focus on it until it becomes your reality.
