When troubles come your way consider it an opportunity for great joy
James 1 : 2

The credit crunch is providing plenty of reasons for many of us to live in fear and if the media has it’s way it can be easy to think there really is no hope for the coming year and yet I see signs of things improving every day…. when….? When I changed the way I was looking at things.

I haven’t been affected by the credit crunch at all although I would love to blame it…! My finances have been affected by my inaction. I did nothing, I sold nothing so therefore I earned nothing. Not difficult to understand that equation really.

My path is exactly where I want it to be right now and I believe that. Our actions determine where we will be at every given moment and even inaction is a decision to do nothing and so therefore still action.

I kept asking the question WHY I am doing nothing but to no avail. My life right now has stopped and instead of fighting it with fear and worry I am now embracing it and looking forward to what’s next. I have decided to focus on joy and faith, which of course my new found faith in Jesus Christ has definitely helped me achieve.

I have come to the realization that all personal development is the bible but with God removed! Even the law of attraction that is so popular right now is focused on in the Gospel and includes praising and acknowledging God. So if you have had no luck attracting your desires you may want to consider adding that part and turning to Jesus Christ so that you may learn His lessons and begin to know Him.

Having said that because it has worked for me it really doesn’t mean it will work for you. I guess we all need to find our way back home and we all have definitely journeys to take. I would still encourage you to open your heart to seeing knowing God as one of those journeys.

Here is the full verse James Chapter 1 verses 2-8

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

If you are finding yourself unstable stop and ask God for wisdom. Not stuff (I tried that!) but wisdom, faith and the courage to endure. When I began to ask for that I began to feel a sense of joy return to me and the realization that where I am in my life is perfect for my spiritual growth. Anything I lose on this journey in terms of stuff (car, house, art etc) can be replaced. These are low value possessions.

The high value comes from being loved and loving others, loving and knowing God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, having a mind, body, soul, being able to dream, experiencing joy & gratitude, feeling the wind on your face. These are free and high value yet so easy to take for granted.

If you are experiencing troubles right now may God bless you with his wisdom and guidance so that you may see it through to the end. Remember it is there to support you in getting stronger. Pray and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you. We will all come through this and when God blesses us with what we need it will be 50 times better than anything we could have imagined.

Stay strong. :)

NatWest and RBS Commit to six months for mortgage arrears

December 3, 2008 by DianeCorriette

It was really good to read that both NatWest Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland had committed to giving people more time if they had fallen into arrears.

Being in that position is dificult in the first place and at least now it will allow breathing space to look at what can be done……

The FINANCIAL — NatWest and RBS have on December 1 given homeowners a much-needed financial breathing space with a firm commitment not to start repossession proceedings for a full six months after a customer first falls into arrears.

The Bank has given a guarantee that will help lift the pressure on those homeowners struggling to meet their monthly repayments and give them more time to talk and work with the Bank and gain the support and advice they need.  Source : finchannel.com

The Law of Attraction and the Science of Getting Rich

What are you thinking about right now? The Law of Attraction states that “whatever we think about, we bring about”. This law may initially seem like new age fluff but believe it or not, there are scientific merits to this proposition. The top quantum physicists of our time have discovered that our universe and our reality is very much directed by the “observer”.

When studying quantum particles (the smallest observable unit of matter), these scientists discovered that such particles behave in accordance with the person conducting the experiment. It the scientists “predict” that quantum particles behave in a certain way, they do. And yet, if the scientists “predict” that quantum particles behave in another way, they do. It is the “observer” that dictates the outcome of the experiment!

What does all this mean for us normal people? Well actually, these scientific experiments has far reaching implications for us as our world is made up of these same quantum particles! In this case, we are the “observer” the director and hence the creator of our reality, our world and our experience.

So, be careful of what you think about! for example, have you thoughts ever begun with the following phrases:

I don’t understand…

I don’t want…

I’m frustrated that…

I hate my…

I can’t figure out …

I’m stressed about…

I’m worried that…

I should be able to… but I can’t…

Why am I having so much trouble?

The Law of Attraction indifferent to the words preceding your thought. Whatever you think about you will attract into your life. When you think “I don’t understand why bad things always happen to me?”, you are “attracting” bad things into your life. When you think “I want to get out of debt”, you are attracting more debt into your life. When you think “I’m worried I will get sick”, you are attracting sickness into your life! The Law of Attraction brings about what you focus on even if it is not what you want. Get it?

If you understand this principle, here are some examples of how to make the law of attraction work to support you rather than to act against you. Try observing your thoughts and changing your thinking in the following way:

“I want to get out of debt” to “I want to earn amazing riches”

“I hate my boss” to “I look forward to owning my own business”

“I don’t understand why he is so lazy” to “I love it when he helps out around the house”

“I’m stressed about this project” to “I always create amazing results in my projects”

“I’m worried about getting sick” to “I experience vibrant health daily”

Now that we have a better understanding of the Law of Attraction, it is no surprise why so many people struggle with regards to money. It is been said that “the rich get richer while the poor get poorer”. This is actually the Law of Attraction in action. Because the wealthy have money, they often think about how to best use their money and hence they attract more money. The poor on the other hand often think about their present lack of money and unfortunately, that also attracts lack into their lives. Currently, 96% of the world’s wealth is being earned by just 1% of the population!

To address this issue, the main teachers behind the movie is launching a program is called “The Science of Getting Rich” and it is based on employing the law of attraction to create wealth. This amazing program is based on the principles and philosophies outlined in a book of the same title written in 1910 by Wallace D Wattles. This is the same book that inspired the movie.

What is the Science of Getting Rich about? Well in the words of Wallace D. Wattles, “The ownership of money and property comes as a result of doing things in a certain way. Those who do things in this certain way, whether on purpose or accidentally, get rich. Those who do not do things in this certain way, no matter how hard they work or how able they are, remain poor. It is a natural law that like causes always produce like effects. Therefore, any man or woman who learns to do things in this certain way will infallibly get rich.” The Science of Getting Rich Seminar is all about teaching how to do things in this “certain” way to create wealth.

Two more deaths because of debt

September 29, 2008 by DianeCorriette

This really is getting scary. The number of people who believe that the only option they have is to take their life because of debt.

Did you know that if you rang your credit card company and asked them if you could pay a token payment for a few months they would have little option but to say yes! Even if that payment was £1 a month.

The first death was a 34 year old student who had £40,000 on credit cards and the second a father who took his own life by cutting his throat.

Nothing ever needs to be that bad that you take your own life…. really! Talk to the national debt helpline and find out your options.

If any of the staff at any of the companies that you owe money to are rude or disrespectful immediately tell them you want to speak to someone else. I don’t care how much money you owe no one has the right to speak to you in any manner that isnt 100% helpful.

The worst that can happen is you go through IVA or bankruptcy… and I say that is the worst when compared to taking your own life.

Please talk to someone, get help, ring the people you owe money to and pay them a nominal amount. As long as each month you pay something small they can not accuse you of non payment.

Bank Charges Claims Put On Hold

September 10, 2008 by DianeCorriette

Well it seems the banks have another six months to continuing getting richer and fatter (it seems they make 2.6 BILLION a year from bank charges) because I found an article today that is featured on the Times Online site reporting banks now have until January 2009 to let their customers know if they will receive compensation.

I guess one way to let them know how unhappy you are is to vote with your feet and set up an account with a co-operative! They would soon take notice if thousands of people left every week. I’m having trouble finding a co-operative in West London but still looking.

Maybe they do online banking… I really must look into this.

Did you watch Dispatches on channel 4?

August 27, 2008 by DianeCorriette

I was half way through watching EastEnders and suddenly decided that I hate watching that program and wanted to turn over so I handed the remote to my daughter who turned it onto Dispatches on channel 4.

This weeks show was called

Dispatches: How The Banks Never Lose

The program focused on the banks and more importantly the huge commission payouts given to Investment Bankers…

One million pounds…..

let me just write that again…..

One million pounds…..

And you won’t believe the payouts the CEOs receive because their £975,000 or more yearly salary isn’t enough.

And in times of recession and credit crunches like we are experiencing now how do they make up the shortfall from the income that has come in (because the risks these investment bankers have taken don’t always pay off) and the huge number of “bonuses” they need to pay out?

They take a little interest off saving accounts, they add a little more to bank charges and they put a little on the interest rate. So while the investment bankers are buying a porsche with cash we are losing money on our savings and paying more on our mortgage.

Here’s a video I found on another Dispatches program that focused on Banks and how they bet your money. It explains the risk the banks took to make short term profits in the USA and how Europe and the UK decided to take their own piece of the pie!

As always its the general consumer that pays for this mess - that’s you and I - but there is an alternative in the shape of credit unions.

If you want to know what a credit union is here’ something from Wikipedia - CREDIT UNION

Credit unions are a great alternative. Run and managed by members they are usually cheaper to borrow from and charge less than banks plus they have a community development value system attached to them.

I’m looking to see if there is one in West London. Here’s a list I found from doing a search

A.

Lambeth Savings & Credit Union Ltd

- www.lscu.org.uk - +44 20 3256 0000 - more

B.

Hackney Credit Union

- www.hackneycreditunion.co.uk - +44 20 89866868 - more

C.

Yusuf Cicek Consultancy Ltd

- www.yusufcicek.com - +44 20 7033 3666 - more

D.

Deptford & New Cross Credit Union

- maps.google.com - +44 20 72777477 - more

E.

Waltham Forest Council Employees Credit Union Ltd

- maps.google.com - +44 20 84964826 - more

F.

Auto LogBook Loans

- www.autologbookloans.co.uk - +44 845 322 0011 - more

G.

Rainbow Saver London Credit Union Ltd

- maps.google.com - +44 20 85399746 - more

H.

Costcutter Off-Licence

- maps.google.com - +44 20 8800 4822 - more

I.

Lewisham Plus Credit Union Ltd

- www.lewishampluscu.co.uk - +44 20 87784738 - more

J.

Southwark Credit Union

- www.creditunion.co.uk - +44 20 77870770 - more

Of course if you are feeling the credit pinch (and I know I am) then changing to a credit union wont really help you right now. Instead its important to assess what help you need and get it because its been predicted that we may have another 12 months of this!

What makes me angry is the fact that these investment bankers get to keep their commissions even if they took a risk on something that went bad. They keep their million and we get more added on to our mortgage. The worst of it is now that house prices are low they can use their million pound bonus to buy up property (because now is the best time to invest) and wait for that property to increase in value so they make more money.

It was the banks greed that has caused this current credit crunch….. Its just incredible! Six figure incomes and bonuses for causing the credit crunch…. I definitely didn’t choose the right career!
