When I wrote my eBook Feel and Rebuild Self-Confidence I had one thing in mind. To support anyone who needed the courage and strength to pursue a passion or set and achieve a goal one step at a time.
I want to help you fulfill your heart desire one step at a time.
Your goal (desire/passion) doesn’t have to be something that will change the world as long as it changes your world and makes you happy. I am all for aiming high and having huge scary goals but life has taught me not to discount the little successes along the way.
I like to encourage people to at least make a start on fulfilling their goals by focusing on the little things first.
Maybe you want to play at Wembley one day but how about starting by learning how to play the guitar or improve your singing? Maybe even write a song or two and sing them at a local venue.
Perhaps your thing is to build an international franchise but how about starting your business and building your income so that it sustains your lifestyle?
Recently, as I support people re-connecting to a passion it isn’t anything huge it is just important to them.
They want to swim with dolphins or move to another part of the world. One woman wanted to leave her job and pursue acting, another wanted to improve her outlook on life so she wasn’t always so negative/miserable.
These passions won’t change the world (unless, like me, you believe that any small change a person makes to their life has an impact on the collective consciousness of mankind for the better – but that’s a topic for another day 🙂 ) but they will make the person pursuing them happy and that is really all that matters.
Fulfilling my own passion
I love focusing on self-confidence and I realised that I have placed my true passion, writing, to one side as I did other work.
Deep down my belief was that writers don’t earn much money and I have a family to support. This was an unconscious thought that had stopped me without me even realising it was there!
Deep down my fear and worry was that I wouldn’t make it.
I gave up writing when I was 30 (17 years ago) after receiving what I perceived to be harsh criticism and at the time, still being very low on self-confidence, I stopped writing.
My passion for writing was re-ignited back in 2009 as I shared my poetry on a social network group. I was much stronger by that time to handle anything negative and more intune with the fact that negativity can help make me stronger.
In fact the majority of what I received was very positive and this started me writing again.
In 2011 I began to consider whether writing was something I really wanted to do as I got back into it. I let go of everything I was doing and even got myself a part time job while I thought about it. I spent most of this time working through what was stopping me.
Finally, the summer of 2012 I decided it was time to give it a go but I didn’t announce this to anyone until November 2012. It was a bit of a journey but I got there.
I am not writing a novel for now. I am starting small. I found a love for a genre called flash fiction stories. They are short, short stories under 1,000 words.
There are also micro-fiction stories which are up to 350 words long. I like to call them ‘coffee break reading‘ because the stories are so short that you can read them on your coffee break.
My passion of wanting to write and be published has now been achieved because at the end of September I completed and self-published my book “The last hut and 29 other flash fiction stories” – It is also available through Amazon Kindle (UK and America) .
That was my first step. Now it is complete my next step is to secure an agent and look to get a publishing deal while I continue to write.
I also want to start writing short stories and may consider tackling a novel but one step at a time.
When I think about writing a novel I feel overwhelmed so I bring myself back to this present moment and focus on writing my flash fiction stories.
What do you want to fulfill?
Do you have something you want to pursue?
Maybe it is so big that you can’t imagine achieving it but if you break it down into smaller steps it suddenly seems achievable?
The great thing about living in the western world is that we have these kinds of opportunities. To pursue and achieve a goal/passion no matter what our age, gender, status may be.
If you want to paint go ahead and pick up your paper and paints and do that. If you want to travel the country in a motorhome then find out how much it will be to hire one, how much you will need to cover your costs and make a plan that includes where you will start then begin.
If your first step is to spend 12 months saving a certain amount of money each month then do that then move on to the next step. This is how you fulfill your heart desire one step at a time. No matter how long it may take.
Life is too short (cliche I know, but true) to not be happy. What will make you happy?
I am happy my first book is now published and as much as I love writing and selling eBooks it really is great to have a physical book in my hand.
Now I focus on improving my writing while looking for an agent for as long as it takes, until I have achieved that step.
What is your first step? How can you fulfill your goal one step at a time? Feel free to share by leaving a comment on the blog.
