Myer Briggs ISFJ | Self Confidence building for women

Myer Briggs ISFJ

I took a free Myer Briggs test and discovered I am an ISFJ

Introverted [44%]

Sensing [25%]

Feeling [75%]

Judging [11%]

One of the words that people often say about me when they don’t know me is “reserved” – which I never really understood because I must be the most NOT reserved person you ever met. But I am quiet. Only because I spend more time listening than I do talking!

After reading the blurb about ISFJ I liked this bit…….

You can read the whole thing about GUARDIANS/PROTECTORS here

We are lucky that Protectors make up as much as ten percent the population, because their primary interest is in the safety and security of those they care about – their family, their circle of friends, their students, their patients, their boss, their fellow-workers, or their employees. Protectors have an extraordinary sense of loyalty and responsibility in their makeup, and seem fulfilled in the degree they can shield others from the dirt and dangers of the world.

Wanting to be of service to others, Protectors find great satisfaction in assisting the downtrodden, and can deal with disability and neediness in others better than any other type. They are not as outgoing and talkative as the Provider Guardians [ESFJs], and their shyness is often misjudged as stiffness, even coldness, when in truth Protectors are warm-hearted and sympathetic, giving happily of themselves to those in need.

Their reserve ought really to be seen as an expression of their sincerity and seriousness of purpose. The most diligent of all the types, Protectors are willing to work long, hard hours quietly doing all the thankless jobs that others manage to avoid. Protectors are quite happy working alone; in fact, in positions of authority they may try to do everything themselves rather than direct others to get the job done. Thoroughness and frugality are also virtues for them. When Protectors undertake a task, they will complete it if humanly possible. They also know better than any other type the value of a dollar, and they abhor the squandering or misuse of money. To save, to put something aside against an unpredictable future, to prepare for emergencies-these are actions near and dear to the Protector’s heart.

For all these reasons, Protectors are frequently overworked, just as they are frequently misunderstood and undervalued. Their contributions, and also their economies, are often taken for granted, and they rarely get the gratitude they deserve.”

There is also this description here by J Butt and M.M. Heiss

Now while I wouldn’t live my life by this there certainly are some truths in who am I expressed in those words. I went out of my way to change that after training with Landmark Education because I wanted to be more outgoing – and to a large degree I am – but I soon realised I would never be the “life and soul” because it just wasn’t something I really wanted!

The most concerning thing is that all the descriptions express

our tendency to overwork

our “doormat” lives because we offer to help and serve – people tend to take advantage!

So I am going to watch both of those. I must admit I do tend to do much more than I am supposed to when helping people!

About Diane Corriette

I write on this self development blog about building self confidence, and living a life of full self expression where you are free to be you. Being able to be confident is not so much about how you think but what you feel. To successfully build self confidence you must use your thoughts to create an image of who you want to be, and your emotions to help you feel this amazing new you and then visualise & focus on it until it becomes your reality.

After I read this I was convinced I was a Guardian/protector then I read about the Idealists, the Rationals and the Artisans and I thought ooo I’m these too :-) Guess we are all a bit of everything

We definitely are a bit of everything but you will find that one resonates with you more than the others. The Artisan and Rational are definitely not me!There will be very slight traces but if I am being my authentic self then they wouldn’t fit into who I am.
