Why Is Tithing Such A rip off?

Why is tithing such a rip off when I get such an uplift and a feeling of love from being in church? Why isn’t it seen as a gift?
Why do so many people dislike the fact that I give money to my church and my Pastor when they go into a shop and buy ciggarettes or stand in a bar and drink alcohol?
Why is it mainly non-believers who don’t believe in giving money to church and who believe it’s a way to get money out of weak people?
Why aren’t motivational events that uplift you for a few hours and then have you return to your old state of worry and fear a rip off?
Why is it that NOTHING has come close to providing me with the peace, joy and serenity I feel since finding my church GoodNews Ministries and yet to suggest that I give them 10% of everything I earn is met with complete shock?
When are we going to realise that giving is about giving from the heart? Have you ever bought something for someone you love just because you love them and you knew they would love it?Well I give because I know Jesus loves it.
My Pastor can’t do anything if I buy him a cow or a chicken – the old days of tithing. Money is the easiest thing to tithe plus it helps the church to function and I have even been encouraged to tithe my time and smiles (yes you can tithe smiles too
) so it’s not always about money but to keep supporting my spiritual development my church needs help.
Please watch this video and answer a question for me…….
What would be on your cardboard testimony?
Diane
P.S. I want to thank and bless Scott McQueen from Just A Thought for bringing this video to my attention today
My cardboard testimony
Insecure, full of worry and doubt……. [turn it over]
Full of faith, joy and peace trusting in His love for me.
Do you want to know the secret to becoming unstoppable? - it's all about building selfWhere ever we receive our spiritual nourishment is where we need to invest….. remember that and may God fill your life with love and laughter in 2009

Love your Blog, hope you don’t mind if I get some ideas for mine. Thanks for following me on Twitter! I think it is really important to get the message out about supporting our churches. I know so many are taking a big hit with recent financial situations. But I am remembering who was there for me when I needed them most: my pastor and my church. So I am going to be there for them during thick and thin. And for those in our congregation that need help, I am here with what resources I have; my money, my time, and my love and honesty. God has done such a miracle in my life, I will never be able to pay back the debt I owe!
Thanks for spreading the word!
God Bless!
I have just watched the video with a tear in my eye, trying not to be too emotional with my family around me.
For a long while I have thought that those who have experienced greater hardship have more reason to shout about the Lord than I do, but now I realise that in this (self-indulgent sin), I have allowed myself to miss out on some of the joy that the Lord has for me in our relationship.
So I repent Lord of my own folly, and ask that you forgive me of this sin and cleanse me of all unrighteousness
Makes me think differently about tithing, even though i have always tihthed, I feel that after this it will be less of a chore, and more of a gift to you Lord, to accomplish your wish in my church and the life of my family.
Thanks
Thank you very much Rob for your comment. Tithing indeed must not be done as a routine but as an act of obedience to a God who always forgives us of all ‘unmentionable’ small and big wickednesses and rebellion. Tithing cannot be compared to anything we have recieved from God. Let us give as an act of appreciation!
Thanks for all the comments. Scott… no problem!
Robert. I’m glad that the video has made a difference to the way you think about tithing. As a new Christian I struggled with it a little because I was raised to believe that all churches want is your money so it can go into their pockets! But after reading about it I have a much better understanding now and give when I can because I choose to.
Thank you for your comment Pastor Chika. If it is an act of obedience then I definitely have come a long way because it’s not like me to do as I am told usually
An act of appreciation is definitely how I see it.
